 LATEST UPDATE

UPDATE: 5:00 PM - SATURDAY, AUGUST 29
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for coastal and inland Collier County from tonight (Saturday) through Sunday night (August 30). A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Deep tropical moisture associated from the remnants of Erika will be moving into South Florida late tonight through Sunday night. This will create a threat for very heavy rainfall across South Florida with rainfall amounts from 2 to 4 inches along with possibility of much higher amounts where showers and thunderstorms move over the same area. Heavy rain may create significant flooding of streets, urban areas, and low lying flood-prone areas.

UPDATE: 2:30 PM - SATURDAY, AUGUST 29
Erika is no longer a tropical storm, so it appears that we have avoided a tropical wind event. The remnants of Erika still contain a lot of rain and present a risk of flooding late Sunday night through Tuesday. Collier County declared a precautionary state of emergency today. This is not to alarm, but to have us ready if we need any flood-related assistance after the storm. We will make a final determination about school closures tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (Sunday, August 30). We want to use the next 24 hours to gather more information on the impending rain event and the potential flood risk for Monday. Please continue to follow our district website at www.collierschools.com, as well as Facebook and Twitter for any other updates.
